How to find us
You will find Coed-yr-Hela on Court Colman Road. The entrance to the woodland is at the back of the car park on the left, and the path is circular, bringing you back to the same point. The Scouts kindly allow visitors to use their car park if needed.
What you should know
Many Pen-y-fai residents walk in Coed-yr-Hela and find the 15-minute circular walk an ideal opportunity to enjoy the peace of an ancient woodland.
From time to time, organisations use the woods for events. We welcome all appropriate use of the woodland, but ask that anyone who would like to hold an event there completes this form and emails it to us at admin@coedpenyfaitrust.co.uk at least 21 days before the planned event. Please note that activities involving lighting fires will not be permitted.
Visitor advice
Weather conditions – Coed-yr-Hela is a wild woodland and visitors enter at their own risk. Please avoid walking in the woods during windy weather – this applies to any woods.
Fires – never light a fire in the woods; fire spreads quickly and uncontrollably.
Picnics –visitors are welcome to picnic in the woods, but please take away your rubbish afterwards.

Dog poo – not welcome in an area where many children play and explore, so please pick up after your dog. We have applied to Newcastle Higher Community Council for a dog waste bin and hope that their response will be positive; in the meantime, please dispose of the bag elsewhere.
