Our History

Where we started

When the major part of Coed-yr-Hela was for sale in 1999, Pen-y-fai village residents donated generously and the woods was saved for the community.  Coed Pen-y-fai Trust was formed to manage and safeguard the woodland, and in 2024 it became a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) under the Charities Commission.

Coed-yr-Hela has been designated an Ancient Woodland by Bridgend County Borough Council.  The Trustees are currently applying for Green Flag status for the woods.  The Trust works with Llais y Coedwig and other organisations, sharing knowledge and expertise.
